Acting Governor Yakubu Garba has announced that the military is evaluating the security situation in Alawa, with plans to reopen a military base in the town.
The announcement was made at the Government House in Minna, following the delivery of food donations by Senator Mohammed Sani, who represents the Niger East senatorial district.
These donations are intended for victims of the recent bandit attack in Alawa.
The reopening of the military base is part of efforts to strengthen security in the region, which has been heavily impacted by banditry in recent months.
Additionally, Governor Garba confirmed that calm has been restored to the Barkuta community in Bosso Local Government Area, following deadly clashes between farmers and herders.
The donations were presented by a delegation led by Babasule Bisala, who explained that the ongoing insecurity prevented direct distribution to the affected individuals.
The recent attack claimed the lives of 13 farmers who had ventured from an IDP camp to work on their land.
The Hakimi of Alawa, Ibrahim Salihu, speaking in Hausa, confirmed that the aid reached the victims and the families of those killed in the attack.
The reopening of the military base is expected to bring much-needed relief and enhance safety for residents and farmers in the affected areas.
