The Federal Government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has launched the revitalisation of 58 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in Nasarawa State, aiming to enhance healthcare delivery for residents.
As part of this initiative, the Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency has announced that the selected facilities will operate round-the-clock to ensure continuous access to medical services.
Executive Secretary of the Agency, Usman Iskilu-Saleh, made this known in Lafia while receiving members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at his office.
He explained that the initial plan was to refurbish at least one PHC in each of the state’s 147 electoral wards. However, the revitalisation effort is beginning with 58 centres, with completion expected by June 2025.
He further assured that efforts would continue towards upgrading other healthcare centres across the 13 Local Government Areas before the end of next year.
Emphasising the state government’s dedication to quality healthcare delivery under Governor Abdullahi Sule, Iskilu-Saleh reaffirmed his commitment to an open-door policy and inclusive leadership.
During the visit, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Isaac Ukpoju, congratulated Iskilu-Saleh on his appointment and pledged media support to promote the agency’s healthcare initiatives.
He also encouraged collaborations, including medical outreach programs that would directly benefit the people of Nasarawa State.
With this initiative, residents of Nasarawa will soon have improved access to essential healthcare services, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening the state’s primary healthcare system.
