President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a crucial meeting with the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), at the State House in Abuja.
The meeting, which began at 12:50 p.m., follows the president’s decision to impose emergency measures in Rivers State due to escalating political tensions.
Vice Admiral Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, was appointed on Tuesday evening to oversee the state’s administration in the wake of the crisis.
As part of the emergency measures, Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the state’s House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
However, the judiciary remains unaffected and will continue to function independently.
Ibas has been tasked with maintaining governance in the oil-rich state but has been explicitly barred from enacting new laws during his tenure.
His appointment signals the federal government’s efforts to stabilize the region amid rising political uncertainty.
Further details from the meeting are expected as discussions unfold.
