Security operatives, successfully foiled an attempted attack by suspected bandits in the Danmusa Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State, according to the state’s police spokesperson.
In a statement released on Sunday, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, confirmed that the operation, which took place on Saturday, was conducted in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) and members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC).
Sadiq explained that the bandits had planned to attack Dan Takuri village in the Danmusa LGA.
“On March 15, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m., credible intelligence gathered from DSS operatives in Danmusa revealed that a group of bandits had assembled in Maijele Mountain, preparing to launch an assault on Dan Takuri village,” he said.
Upon receiving the intelligence, a joint team of police officers and KSCWC members, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Danmusa, swiftly mobilized to the mountain where the bandits were gathering.
A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of one armed bandit.
The statement noted that the superior tactics and firepower of the security forces forced several other bandits to flee, sustaining various degrees of injury in the process.
During the aftermath of the confrontation, operatives recovered several items, including one AK-47 rifle with three rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, an unregistered red Boxer motorcycle, 50 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 32 bottles of soft drinks, one cutlass, and various dangerous drugs.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, commended the operatives for their professionalism and bravery.
He also reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to ensure the safety and protection of Katsina’s residents.
