Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has praised the Department of State Services (DSS) for successfully apprehending five high-profile kidnap suspects operating in the state’s forests.
Acting on credible intelligence, DSS operatives tracked down the suspects at two separate locations in Enugu State on Wednesday. The arrested individuals are believed to be part of a gang responsible for a series of kidnappings in Udi Local Government Area and other parts of the state.
According to security sources, the suspects confessed to extorting large sums of money as ransom from their victims’ families.
In a separate operation on Friday, three additional suspects, identified as key members of another kidnapping syndicate, were arrested in the state capital. Authorities recovered significant amounts of cash—proceeds from ransom payments—as well as lethal weapons and other dangerous items from their hideouts.
Governor Mbah, after being briefed on the details of the arrests, acknowledged the covert nature of the DSS operations and refrained from disclosing further specifics. However, he assured residents that security forces, including the DSS, military, police, and state-owned Forest Guards, are intensifying efforts to track down other fleeing gang members and dismantle their hideouts in the forests.
