As part of its early preparations for the 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has inaugurated the Election Project Plan Committee (EPPC) to develop a strategic framework for the polls.
The committee, chaired by Prof. Rhoda H. Gumus, held its inaugural meeting in Abuja, where it was assigned the crucial task of designing a comprehensive roadmap to ensure a seamless electoral process.
The EPPC is responsible for reviewing its Terms of Reference, developing a work plan, setting up sub-committees, designing an Elections Project Plan (EPP) Template, and establishing submission timelines for planning documents.
Several National Commissioners were present at the inauguration, including:
Kenneth Ukeagu – Chair, Tenders Board (Member)
Dr. Baba Bila – Chair, EOLC (Member)
Sam Olumekun – Chair, EPMC (Member)
Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru – Chair, BEI (Member)
Speaking at the event, Prof. Gumus stressed the importance of early planning in strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process.
“The success of any credible election depends on thorough preparation. Our task is to ensure that every aspect of the electoral process is strategically planned to promote integrity, transparency, and efficiency,” she stated.
She urged committee members to carry out their responsibilities diligently, emphasizing that their work would play a vital role in ensuring the credibility of the 2027 elections.
