The Kebbi State Government has confirmed that 26 people have died following a suspected outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis in Aliero, Gwandu, and Jega local government areas.
Cerebrospinal meningitis is a severe infection that inflames the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It is commonly caused by bacteria or viruses and can spread through close contact.
Symptoms of the disease include high fever, severe headaches, neck stiffness, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light. Without prompt medical intervention, it can result in severe complications or death.
