A man identified as Basiru Hassan has lost his life after stepping on an explosive device believed to have been planted by bandits in Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.
The tragic incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on Monday and was disclosed on Tuesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on X.
According to Makama, Hassan, a resident of Unguwan Hayin Jadda near Pandogari, had entered the Sarari-Mangoro bush to tap honey when he inadvertently triggered the explosive, which detonated instantly.
“He unknowingly stepped on the device, leading to a fatal explosion,” Makama stated.
Relatives later recovered Hassan’s remains and buried him in accordance with Islamic rites.
Following the incident, security agencies have urged local stakeholders and residents, particularly those in areas vulnerable to bandit attacks, to exercise extreme caution when navigating remote paths.
