Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has vowed that no resident of the state will go to bed hungry under his administration.
Speaking on Monday at the official launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Food Outreach Programme in Lokoja, the state capital, Ododo reaffirmed his government’s commitment to food security. He assured that beyond supporting the Federal Government’s intervention, Kogi State would expand its own quarterly food distribution programme to reach more vulnerable households.
“Under our watch, no Kogi citizen should go to bed hungry,” the governor declared. He described the RHI Food Outreach as a timely and compassionate initiative that aligns with the state’s vision to support citizens struggling with economic hardship.
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who was represented at the event, cautioned beneficiaries against reselling the food supplies and urged them to make proper use of the assistance to improve their well-being.
“This initiative is not just about food; it is about restoring dignity, giving hope, and providing relief to the most vulnerable among us,” she stated.
She further highlighted the broader impact of the programme, noting that it has already benefited citizens in multiple states, with plans for expansion. Other components of the initiative, she added, include grants for People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs), climate change awareness programmes for students, and the Flow with Confidence project, which provides sanitary products to young girls in rural areas to encourage school attendance.
Earlier, Kogi State First Lady and RHI State Coordinator, Safinat Ododo, praised the First Lady’s intervention, acknowledging its role in alleviating hardship among the less privileged. She also reaffirmed Kogi women’s commitment to national development and pledged to work closely with communities to address their needs.
