Bashir Ahmed, a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has raised concerns about the negative impact of the social media platform TikTok in Nigeria.
He urged stakeholders to impose stricter regulations on the app, which he believes is causing more harm than good.
In a post on his X.com account late Wednesday, Ahmed expressed alarm over how TikTok is increasingly being used by criminal elements in Nigeria, such as bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists, to interact with the public and even engage in live conversations to defend their criminal activities.
“It is alarming that TikTok, a global social media platform, is being utilized by criminals such as bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists in Nigeria to interact with the public and, in some cases, even engage in live conversations defending their heinous activities,” Ahmed wrote.
