Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the immediate suspension of the Acting Head of Service and Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Salisu Mustapha, over allegations of unauthorized salary deductions and non-payment of civil servants’ wages.

In a statement released on Thursday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed that Mustapha has also been directed to step aside from his role as Permanent Secretary, Establishment, in the Office of the Head of Service to facilitate an unhindered investigation.

“To ensure administrative continuity, the governor has approved the appointment of Malam Umar Muhammad Jalo, the Permanent Secretary, REPA, as the new Acting Head of Service, pending the outcome of the ongoing probe,” the statement added.

Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward financial misconduct, warning that those found culpable would face severe consequences.

The investigative panel, led by Abdulkadir Abdussalam, has been given a seven-day deadline to determine the root cause of the irregularities and submit its findings.

Salisu Mustapha was appointed Acting Head of Service earlier this month following the medical leave of the substantive Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, who is currently receiving treatment in India.
