The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), intercepted 1,571 litres of petroleum products being illegally transported in jerrycans to banditry-prone areas.
In a press briefing on behalf of the State Commandant, Sani Mustapha, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Umar Muhammad, disclosed that four suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal transportation at two separate locations.
Among the arrested individuals were two filling station pump attendants and two buyers, apprehended in Birnin Magaji and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the state.
Muhammad explained that in addition to transporting fuel from unauthorized locations, the suspects also violated the Executive Order prohibiting the sale of petroleum products in jerrycans within Zamfara State.
He noted that two of the suspects were apprehended in Birnin Magaji with 1,296 litres of fuel, while the other two were arrested in Tsafe with 275 litres of the product.
“Today, we present to you four suspects apprehended for illegal dealings in Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in large quantities, in violation of both the National and State Executive Orders prohibiting the sale of petroleum products in jerrycans,” Muhammad said.
The NSCDC assured the public that investigations are ongoing and reiterated its commitment to enforcing the law to prevent illegal fuel diversion and other activities that could contribute to insecurity in the state.
