The Federal Government, successfully addressed the passport printer issues at Nigeria’s consulates in New York and Atlanta, United States, following the installation of new passport printers.

This action was taken in response to directives from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in January 2025.

On Tuesday, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), delivered and installed the updated printing machines at both consulates, marking a significant step toward resolving the delays in the passport application process that have plagued Nigerians in the diaspora.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Babatunde Alao, the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Interior, quoted Tunji-Ojo, who emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to innovation and service improvement.

“The Ministry is committed to innovation and improved service delivery.

The installation of these new printers demonstrates our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians at home and abroad,” Tunji-Ojo stated.

The newly installed printers are expected to accelerate the passport application process, offering immediate relief to applicants.

This move is part of the Ministry’s wider reform efforts, which include the establishment of the Abuja Passport Personalisation Centre and the expansion of contactless solutions to more regions.

Tunji-Ojo also highlighted that these reforms are in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, aimed at enhancing the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
