In Kano State, three inmates from different correctional facilities have emerged as winners in a Quran recitation competition organized as part of an educational program for prisoners.

The Kano State Correctional Service organized the competition to help reform inmates by instilling positive values and preparing them for reintegration into society after serving their sentences.

According to the spokesperson of the service, CSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nasarawa, the initiative aims to improve the moral conduct of inmates and encourage them to embrace beneficial activities that will shape their future.

The first-place winner, currently held at Kumawa Correctional Facility, received a cash prize of 100,000 Naira.

The second-place winner, an inmate at Goron Dutse Correctional Facility, was awarded 50,000 Naira, while the third-place winner, held at Janguza Correctional Facility, received 20,000 Naira.

The Chairman of the Association of Quranic Reciters, Gwani Shuaibu Shehu, commended the correctional service for introducing the initiative, emphasizing its role in transforming the lives of inmates.

He also praised the efforts of the Controller of the Kano Correctional Service, Ado Inuwa, and other officials, particularly DSC Murtala Nasidi Kabara, who coordinates religious programs within the facilities, for their dedication to educating inmates in Quranic studies.

The Controller of the Kano Correctional Service expressed his gratitude to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for personally attending the event, highlighting the significance of such support in improving the lives of inmates.
