Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly reached an agreement in principle for a one-year contract extension with Al-Nassr, keeping him at the Saudi Arabian club until the end of next season.
The 40-year-old Portuguese forward, who has become the face of the Saudi Pro League’s push to acquire top European football talent, was set to see his current two-and-a-half-year contract, reportedly worth €200 million annually, expire by June 2025. However, according to AFP, citing Goal, Ronaldo has agreed verbally to extend his stay with Al-Nassr for another year.
Despite his expiring contract, Ronaldo had been linked with potential moves to several clubs, including his boyhood team, Sporting Lisbon. He recently dismissed rumors linking him to a return to Portugal.
Ronaldo’s pivotal role in the development of football and sports in Saudi Arabia made it unlikely that he would leave the kingdom anytime soon.
An Al-Nassr official, speaking to AFP, confirmed the verbal agreement, stating: “The sides have agreed on the renewable extension of Ronaldo’s contract, but it has not been signed yet. An announcement will be made over the coming days.”
The contract extension would further solidify Ronaldo’s position as a central figure in Al-Nassr’s ambitious plans for the future.
