President Bola Tinubu, formally sworn in eight new Federal Permanent Secretaries in a ceremony held just before the commencement of the year’s first Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja.

The event took place after introductory remarks from the Director of Media and Publicity at the State House, Mr. Abiodun Oladunjoye.

The newly sworn-in permanent secretaries represent various states, including Onwusoro Ihemelandu (Abia), Ndiomu Philip (Bayelsa), Anuma Nlia (Ebonyi), and Ogbodo Nnam (Enugu).

Additionally, Usman Aminu (Kebbi), Oyekunle Nwakuso (Rivers), Nadungu Gagare (Kaduna), and Kalba Usman (Gombe) were also sworn in.

In addition to the permanent secretaries, the President also administered the oath of office to 18 Federal Commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

These commissioners were appointed last August, pending Senate confirmation.

Among them are Linda Oti (Abia), Akpan Effiong (Akwa Ibom), Enefe Ekene (Anambra), Prof. Steve Ugba (Benue), Chief Eyonsa (Cross River), Aruviere Egharhevwe (Delta), Nduka Awuregu (Ebonyi), and Victor Eboigbe (Edo), alongside others from across the country, including Wumi Ogunlola (Ekiti), Ozo Obodougo (Enugu), and Kabir Mashi (Katsina).

Also taking the oath were commissioners Adamu Fanda (Kano), Dr. Kunle Wright (Lagos), Aliyu Abdulkadir (Nasarawa), Bako Shetima (Niger), Samuel Durojaye (Ogun), Nathaniel Adejutelegan (Ondo), Saad Ibrahim (Plateau), Modu-Aji Juluri (Yobe), Bello Garba (Zamfara), and Mohammed Usman (Gombe).

Further appointments included Kayode Oladele as Commissioner for the Federal Character Commission and Victoria Iyatan as a member of the National Population Commission.

The meeting was also marked by a minute of silence to honor the late Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni, former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, who passed away on January 23, 2025.

The FEC’s meeting marked its return after a six-week recess, following an announcement by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on December 16, 2024.

Idris had earlier stated, “The Federal Executive Council will be on recess from the 18th of this month until the 6th of January, meaning that there won’t be any Federal Executive Council meeting during that period.”

More details will follow.
