The Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government’s Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) to kickstart the development of the Green Line rail project.
The 68-kilometer rail line is set to link Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone upon completion, enhancing transportation and boosting economic activities in the state.
Lagos State has also made significant progress in infrastructure development.
In 2024, the government completed 36 road projects, including major bridges and pedestrian infrastructure.
Notable projects include the Arowojobe Link Bridge and Approach Road in Mende, Maryland, and the Sand Zero Road in Oyingbo, among others.
Additional projects are ongoing across the state, such as the Platinum Road in Igbokusu, Babafemi Dada Bridge, and roads like Samuel Ekundayo Road and Abaranje Road.
As part of its Bus Reform Initiative, Lagos is constructing new BRT terminals at Abule Egba, Iyana Ipaja, and Ajah, with significant progress being made on pedestrian bridges and the Lagos-Badagry Expressway BRT infrastructure from Doyin Orile to Mile 2.
The state has also achieved a milestone with the operationalization of the first phase of the Red Line rail project.
This 27-kilometer line, completed in 2024, runs from Agbado in Ogun State to Oyingbo in Lagos and serves approximately 500,000 passengers daily.
The Red Line integrates with major bus terminals and features eight stations, vehicular overpasses, and pedestrian bridges.
Additionally, construction has begun on the second phase of the Blue Line rail project, which will extend the line from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko.
The government is working toward integrating the Red and Blue Lines to create a seamless and efficient transportation network for residents.
These projects underscore Lagos State’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing urban mobility.
