The Anambra State Government has uncovered 35 graves and a shrine on the topmost floor of the two-storey Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area. The facility was allegedly used for kidnapping and other criminal activities.

Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, who led the demolition squad, revealed the shocking discoveries, which also included live bullets and other incriminating items. According to Ibezim, the state’s Homeland Security Law, signed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, empowers security operations to demolish properties linked to criminal activities and forfeit them to the state.

“The Homeland Security Law has strengthened our resolve to eliminate crime. Any facility linked to criminal activities will not only be pulled down but taken over by the government,” Ibezim stated.

Eyewitnesses reported that several rooms in the hotel were in disrepair, with expended bullets found in some areas. The demolition of the building was carried out in strict adherence to the security law.

Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakyi, affirmed that the government’s action is part of a sustained fight against crime. “This is not a one-off operation. The state is fully committed to combating crime and ensuring the safety of our communities,” he said.

The state government has urged members of the public to support the fight against criminality by reporting suspicious activities in their areas.
