The Federal Government of Nigeria, extended its congratulations to Donald Trump on his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States of America.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria expressed optimism about strengthening its longstanding and robust strategic partnership with the United States.

“Nigeria and the United States have enjoyed cooperation in diverse areas of mutual interest, particularly in promoting good governance, sustainable development, and combating terrorism and violent extremism,” the statement read.

The government emphasized its commitment to building on this cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.

Trump, who was sworn in on Monday for a historic second term, wasted no time outlining his ambitious agenda.

Among his key priorities are proposed changes to immigration policies, including plans to eliminate birthright citizenship for children of immigrants and travelers without legal residency status.

He also reiterated his commitment to deporting undocumented immigrants.

Nigeria’s statement reflects its interest in fostering deeper collaboration with the United States in addressing global challenges and advancing shared goals, even as the U.S. navigates new policy directions under Trump’s leadership.
