Remo Stars Football Club of Ikenne suffered an early exit from the 2024/2025 CAF Champions League, crashing out in the first preliminary round on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco.

The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) runners-up were defeated 2-0 by Moroccan side AS FAR Rabat, resulting in a 3-2 aggregate loss.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that after securing a 2-1 victory in the first leg on August 18 in Ikenne, Remo Stars were unable to withstand the Moroccan team’s relentless attack in the second leg, played at Stade Prince Moulay El Hassan.

Joel Beya, who had scored AS FAR Rabat’s lone goal in Ikenne, opened the scoring in the 53rd minute.

With just 12 minutes remaining and Remo Stars fighting to hold on, the home side was awarded a penalty, which El Amine Zouhzouh converted to seal their victory.

This defeat marks the early elimination of two Nigerian clubs from continental competitions. El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri also crashed out of the African Confederation Cup on Saturday after a 3-2 aggregate loss.

Nigeria’s hopes in the CAF competitions now rest with Enyimba International FC of Aba, who advanced to the second preliminary round of the African Confederation Cup, and Rangers International FC of Enugu, who progressed to the second round of the CAF Champions League following a 2-1 aggregate win in their opening round.
