Timileyin Ajayi, a 32-year-old gospel artist, has admitted to killing his girlfriend, Salome Eleojo Adaidu, citing alleged infidelity as his motive. Ajayi, currently in detention at the Nasarawa Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Lafia, made the confession during an interview.
Salome, a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) member working at Nicon Insurance in Abuja, was reportedly murdered during a visit to Ajayi’s residence in Papalana, New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
Ajayi was arrested on January 12 while attempting to dispose of the victim’s severed head. The Nasarawa State Police Command paraded him on Tuesday alongside the knife and machetes he allegedly used to dismember Salome’s body.
The Confession
Speaking to Channels Television, Ajayi revealed his reasons for the crime. “I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time. It’s not something I planned. It happened on that day,” he said.
Ajayi claimed he discovered messages on Salome’s phone that suggested she was unfaithful. “She hides most things from me most of the time. I got to know from her phone. I saw her chats with other guys on the phone; that was why I decided [to kill her],” he explained.
When asked if he regretted his actions, Ajayi showed no remorse. “I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal. That is what I thought. If you must do something to someone, you have to be reciprocal with that person. We were actually compatible,” he stated.
Police Investigation
The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed that Ajayi is in custody and facing charges for the gruesome crime. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover additional details about the incident.
The tragic case has sparked widespread outrage and renewed conversations about gender-based violence and mental health awareness in Nigeria.
