The Imo State Police Command has confirmed an explosion that rocked a newly completed building in Umuneke Community, Mbieri, located in Mbaitoli Local Government Area. The incident occurred last Sunday and has left the community in shock.

The command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, disclosed that there were no casualties reported. He added that investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the explosion.

“The blast affected a newly completed building that had not yet been occupied,” Okoye stated.

He further revealed that the Deputy Commissioner of Police, accompanied by the Anti-Bomb Squad, visited the scene to ensure it was cleared of any remaining explosives.

The police assured residents of their commitment to uncovering the root cause of the explosion and holding any perpetrators accountable. Okoye urged the public to remain calm and continue their daily activities, emphasizing that the command is working tirelessly to ensure safety in the area.

Local villagers shared that the building belonged to a couple who had recently completed it and were planning to move in by February. They recounted hearing a loud explosion in the dead of night, and hours later, discovered the structure reduced to rubble.

The police have promised to keep the public informed as more details emerge from the ongoing investigation.
