The Super Eagles are set to face Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday, aiming to revive their campaign for survival.

Eric Chelle, kicks off his tenure as the new head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles as the African qualification series for the 2026 FIFA World Cup resumes.

Currently sitting just one place above the bottom of Group C, the Super Eagles have accumulated only 3 points from four matches, while Rwanda leads the group with 7 points.

This makes Friday’s match a crucial test for Chelle and his players, as expectations are high for a positive result.

The match has sparked a variety of optimistic reactions from Nigerian football figures.

Nathaniel Olagunju, founder and head coach of FC Bethel Sporting, expressed his belief that the new mentality of the Super Eagles is driven not just by the change in leadership, but by the player’s desire to qualify for the World Cup.

“If they don’t reach the World Cup with their talent, it would be a waste of a generation.

Players like Victor Osimhen and Ola Aina are world-class talents, and they want to be among the best,” Olagunju stated.

Daniel Owolabi, head coach of Luba FC, emphasized the importance of the match, saying, “In order for the Super Eagles to defeat Rwanda, they need to put in everything they’ve got. They don’t have a choice but to win.”

A victory for the Super Eagles on Friday could reignite belief in the team following their underwhelming performances in the earlier stages of the qualifiers.
