Head coach of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, Rena Wakama, has urged her players to quickly recover from their defeat to South Korea women’s national basketball team and refocus on upcoming matches in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament.
Nigeria’s D’Tigress suffered a 77–60 loss to South Korea in their second game of the tournament, bringing an end to their winning momentum after a strong start to the competition.
Reacting to the result, Wakama emphasised the need for the team to put the setback behind them and concentrate on improving their performance in subsequent fixtures.
She urged the players to remain focused and learn from the defeat, stressing that the team must bounce back quickly in order to stay competitive in the tournament.
Nigeria had earlier recorded an impressive victory over Colombia women’s national basketball team in their opening match, but struggled to maintain the same rhythm against the Koreans, who controlled key moments of the game to secure the win.
Despite the setback, Wakama expressed confidence in her team’s ability to respond positively, noting that the players remain determined to correct their mistakes and deliver stronger performances in their remaining games.
The coach maintained that the defeat should serve as a learning experience for the squad as they continue their campaign in the qualifying tournament.
D’Tigress will now shift attention to their next fixture as they seek to regain momentum and strengthen their push in the competition.
