President-elect Donald Trump has issued a dire warning to Hamas, vowing severe retaliation if the hostages taken during the 7 October 2023 attacks are not released by the time he assumes office on 20 January 2025.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump declared that failure to release the captives would result in unprecedented consequences.
He described the situation as a humanitarian atrocity, stating, Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied history of the United States of America.
The hostage crisis continues to provoke global outrage, with dozens of captives, including children and foreign nationals, still unaccounted for.
The crisis stems from the unprecedented Hamas assault on southern Israel, which killed approximately 1,200 people and left hundreds of others in captivity.
Trump’s remarks coincide with the confirmation of the death of Omer Neutra, an Israeli-American soldier initially believed to be among the hostages.
The Israeli military revealed that Neutra was killed during the initial Hamas attack, adding to the staggering toll of the conflict.

The hostages are being held so violently, inhumanely, and against the will of the entire world,” he wrote.

While the White House continues to push for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of captives, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby has identified Hamas as the primary obstacle to achieving peace.
