President Bola Tinubu, extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India following the death of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Singh, who served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92.
In a statement released by the State House on Friday, signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Singh as a visionary leader whose legacy in fostering Nigeria-India relations remains significant.
Recalling Singh’s historic 2007 visit to Nigeria, Tinubu noted that the late leader was among the few global statesmen to address a joint session of the Nigerian National Assembly.
The statement read in part: “President Tinubu pays tribute to Dr. Singh’s dedication to strengthening Nigeria-India relations, highlighting his diplomatic efforts as a reference point in the bilateral ties between the two nations.
Under Singh’s tenure, the establishment of the Strategic Partnership between Nigeria and India laid a foundation that continues to drive political and economic prosperity for both countries.
President Tinubu also lauds the late Prime Minister’s initiatives in advancing cooperation in areas such as defence, trade, culture, education, health, science, technology, and ICT.”
Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Indian people for celebrating Singh’s enduring legacy and prayed that his exemplary life of service would inspire future generations.
