President Bola Tinubu, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Adewunmi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and representative of Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency in Ogun State.
Onanuga, who passed away on Wednesday after a brief illness, was remembered by the President as a dedicated public servant and an inspiration to women in politics.
In a statement issued on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu praised the late lawmaker for her unwavering commitment to her constituents and her drive for a better Nigeria.
“She never stopped serving her constituency, and her passion for building a better Nigeria will remain unforgettable in the hearts of those who came in direct contact with her,” the President said.
He added, “Rep. Onanuga was a role model for women in politics, demonstrating that with hard work, integrity, and dedication to just causes, women can be effective leaders in politics.”
The statement highlighted her contributions as Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development in the 9th Assembly and her role as Deputy Chief Whip in the current 10th Assembly.
On behalf of the Federal Government, President Tinubu extended condolences to the late lawmaker’s family, loved ones, the government, and the people of Ogun State, particularly her constituents.
He prayed for God’s comfort for all those mourning her loss and for her soul to rest in eternal peace.
