Notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji has reportedly expressed his willingness to surrender, according to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
Speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, General Musa revealed that intensified military operations against Turji’s network have significantly weakened his position. These operations, he noted, led to the elimination of Turji’s second-in-command and several key lieutenants. The sustained pressure has forced Turji to release many hostages and reconsider his actions.
“They (terrorists) are within the communities; the people know them. So, sometimes when they see them, before you get the information, it’s like two hours – the man has moved. So, when the information gets to you before you move, he has left that area,” Musa explained, highlighting the difficulty of tracking Turji due to his unpredictable movements.
Despite these challenges, Musa emphasized that the military’s recent successes have dealt a significant blow to Turji’s group, pushing him towards surrender. “I can tell you, we have taken out his second-in-command, we have taken out most of his lieutenants. In fact, he is forced now to release most of the people under him. I am telling you that recently, he is beginning to say that he doesn’t want anything, he is ready to surrender,” Musa stated.
The Defence Chief, however, stressed the importance of accountability, insisting that those responsible for acts of violence and the deaths of innocent citizens must face justice, even as efforts are made to bring an end to Turji’s reign of terror.
