The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) located the fault responsible for the power outage affecting parts of the North-East, North-West, and North-Central regions.
The outage occurred on Monday after the 330-kilovolt (kV) Ugwuaji–Apir double circuit transmission lines tripped at 4:53 a.m. due to an unspecified fault.
In an update provided on Wednesday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed that the fault was discovered by the company’s linesmen in the Igumale area of Benue State.
The fault involved a snapped section of the 330kV transmission line, located in a swampy forested area, spanning one section of the line.
Mbah said, “A team of linesmen from TCN discovered the fault at approximately 5 p.m. on Wednesday in the Igumale area.
Arrangements are already underway to mobilize equipment and materials for repairs.”
Due to the challenging terrain, TCN will be transporting heavy equipment, including a bulldozer and a Hiab vehicle from its Enugu regional office, to facilitate the repair.
The Hiab vehicle will assist in properly tensioning the damaged transmission line.
Mbah added that earlier attempts by two different teams to locate the fault were unsuccessful until Wednesday evening.
However, the company is now moving quickly to address the issue.
She expressed gratitude to the government and affected electricity consumers for their patience and reassured the public that TCN is working to restore power as soon as possible.
