The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the relocation of eight 132kV and 33kV transmission towers along the Kukwaba/Apo line on the Outer Southern Expressway in Abuja. The move is necessitated by the ongoing road dualization project along the Apo axis.
In a statement, TCN disclosed that the relocation process would require a planned power outage from Monday, January 6, to Monday, January 20, 2025. The outage will occur daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow for the dismantling, construction, and restringing of power cables, which are critical for resuming bulk power supply to the Apo Transmission Substation from the Gwagwalada Substation.
The company further noted that electricity supply would be rationed in the affected areas, including Kubwa, Karu, Mararaba, Nyanya, Masaka, Keffi, Kukwaba, and Apo Mechanic. Parts of Lugbe, Trademore Estate, Pyakasa, Sabon Lugbe, and the Chika-Alaita axis will also experience disruptions.
While emphasizing the necessity of the project for the completion of the road dualization, TCN apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused by the outage. The company assured residents that power supply would be promptly restored once the relocation and cable restringing are completed.
TCN urged affected residents to bear with the temporary inconvenience, stressing that the project is a vital step in improving infrastructure in the area.
