Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, dismissed allegations of failing to settle payments for land allocated to him in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Speaker’s name appeared in a recent report citing individuals affected by the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s decision to revoke land titles over unpaid dues.
In a statement released on Friday, Musa Krishi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, clarified that Abbas owns only one plot of land in the FCT and had fully paid for it in October 2024.
Krishi called the inclusion of Abbas’s name in the list of defaulters a mistake, urging the FCTA to handle such matters with greater accuracy.
“It is an error for the FCTA to include Speaker Abbas Tajudeen’s name among those with outstanding payments, resulting in the revocation of land titles. The FCTA is advised to be more circumspect in handling such issues,” the statement read.
The Speaker’s office also criticized the media for spreading unverified information, calling for diligence in fact-checking before publication.
“The media must verify facts thoroughly before publishing. We urge them to desist from further spreading such misleading information about the Speaker,” Krishi added.
The statement reiterated that Abbas had fulfilled all financial obligations related to his land allocation and sought to correct the public record.
