The Senate summoned the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC,Dr. Peer Lubasch, to answer for the company’s refusal to honor invitations regarding the Odukpani-Itu Highway project.
The highway, which runs through Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, serves as a vital transportation link between Odukpani in Cross River State and Itu in Akwa Ibom State, playing a key role in regional economic and logistical activities.
The Senate’s action follows a motion sponsored by Senator Osita Ngwu, which highlighted Julius Berger’s failure to respond to multiple requests for details about its involvement in the project, despite receiving over N18 billion in public funds for its execution.
The Senate has condemned the company’s refusal, stating that it constitutes contempt of the National Assembly and undermines constitutional authority.
In response, the Senate has invoked its constitutional powers, issuing a warrant of arrest to compel the attendance of Julius Berger’s Managing Director at the rescheduled investigative hearing.
