National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has dismissed claims about his alleged interest in contesting the presidency in 2031, stating that he remains fully focused on his current national assignment. He also declined to engage in a media confrontation with former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who recently criticized him during an interview on ARISE News.
Reacting to El-Rufai’s remarks, Ribadu stated:
“My attention has been drawn to the interview granted by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. If my silence wouldn’t be misconstrued as consent, I would have ignored him. I am too preoccupied with my current assignment to engage in a media fight with him or anyone else.”
Ribadu emphasized that despite repeated provocations, he has never publicly spoken ill of El-Rufai out of respect for their past association and family ties.
“I have never discussed running for president in 2031 with anyone. My full focus and energy remain on advancing Nigeria and supporting the success of President Tinubu’s administration. I urge the public to disregard El-Rufai’s claims,” he stated.
He further urged El-Rufai to allow him to carry out his duties without distraction, adding, “I do not concern myself with his affairs, and I expect the same courtesy.”
Omokri Calls El-Rufai a Liar
Meanwhile, political commentator and staunch Tinubu supporter, Reno Omokri, has accused El-Rufai of lying about the reasons behind his failed ministerial appointment.
Omokri alleged that El-Rufai’s nomination was rejected due to his inability to pass security clearance during the Senate confirmation process.
“During the confirmation process, national and international security agencies flagged Nasir El-Rufai as a diplomatic liability. His past threats against European Union observers and alleged involvement in human rights violations contributed to his disqualification,” Omokri claimed.
He further accused El-Rufai of being implicated in the 2015 Zaria Shiite Massacre, the demolition of properties belonging to political opponents, and inflammatory remarks against Christians.
“El-Rufai was not the only nominee rejected by the Senate. Others accepted their fate, but he has chosen to blame the President and the NSA for his failure,” Omokri argued.
Omokri concluded that El-Rufai’s grievances stem from personal bitterness over his failed ministerial ambition.
