President Bola Tinubu on Thursday announced a new directive limiting the official convoys of Federal Government Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies to a maximum of three vehicles.
“No additional vehicles will be assigned to them for movement,” President Tinubu affirmed in a signed statement titled, “President Tinubu Issues New Directives on Reduction in Cost of Governance.”
Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, shared that “the cost-cutting measure was announced today in a statement signed by the President.” This directive builds on a similar January 2024 order aimed at reducing government expenditure.
Earlier in the year, Tinubu had also instructed that the President’s foreign trip entourage be reduced from 50 to 20 officials and to 25 for local trips. Similarly, the Vice President’s team was limited to five officials for international travel and 15 for local engagements.
In Thursday’s directive, Tinubu mandated that ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies have no more than five security personnel, specifying that “the security team will comprise four police officers and one Department of State Services officer.
No additional security personnel will be assigned,” according to the statement.
Further, the President instructed the National Security Adviser to work with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to consider appropriate reductions in their vehicle and security personnel allocations.
The Presidency stated, “All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of these changes.”
