A dramatic rescue operation unfolded in Kano on Monday as police officers and emergency responders successfully prevented a 19-year-old from taking his own life atop a billboard at the Ado Bayero Bridge.

The young man, identified as Ibrahim Abubakar from Adamawa State, had climbed the towering structure and threatened to jump unless he was granted a meeting with popular TikTok personality, Abdul BK.

The incident attracted the attention of passersby and quickly escalated until authorities intervened.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Kano State Police Command’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, a combined team of police operatives and fire service personnel was dispatched to the scene following a distress call.

Efforts to de-escalate the situation involved negotiation and psychological intervention. The influencer in question, Abdul BK, was eventually brought to the location, after which Abubakar agreed to climb down.

Though physically unharmed, he was found to be severely weakened from several hours without food or water and was immediately taken to the Police Hospital in Bompai for medical attention.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, praised the swift and professional response of the rescue team and called for a full investigation into the incident.

He also used the opportunity to remind the public that attempted suicide is a criminal offence under Nigerian law, while urging individuals battling emotional distress to seek help through appropriate channels.

The police command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and promoting mental health awareness while cautioning against using public stunts to gain social media attention.
