The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), assured residents of comprehensive security during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Commandant Olusola Odumosu announced the deployment of 4,000 personnel across the FCT and its environs to safeguard lives and protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.

The officers are drawn from specialized units, including the Special Intervention Squad, Special Female Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit, Arm Squad, Agro Rangers, Special Protection Unit, Intelligence Unit, and the Operations Department.

In a statement signed by the command spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, and released on Thursday, Odumosu directed the personnel to strictly adhere to the operation order.

He emphasized the importance of securing critical infrastructure, worship centers, recreational facilities, markets, malls, bus parks, and other strategic locations across the city.

The Commandant issued a stern warning to criminals seeking to exploit the festive period, stating, “We are aware of the peculiarities of crime perpetrated by criminals in this type of season, and we are ready to curtail any security breaches.

Those who may want to take advantage of the festive period to undermine the government’s efforts by committing a crime against the state and residents of the FCT are advised to have a rethink.”

Odumosu highlighted the Corps 24-hour surveillance and patrols aimed at deterring vandals, protecting public infrastructure, and ensuring a hitch-free celebration.

“We will not rest until we ensure the safety of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the FCT,” he assured.

He further called for enhanced cooperation among personnel and synergy with sister security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police, to ensure the operation’s success.

Armed personnel were also cautioned to exercise restraint in the use of firearms, with a warning that any misuse would attract strict sanctions.

The Commandant urged residents to remain vigilant, celebrate responsibly, and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies.

He assured the public of their safety and encouraged them to go about their activities without fear.
