Nigeria is set to launch a major digital trade platform on Friday as part of ongoing economic reforms aimed at improving efficiency and reducing the cost of doing business, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, has said.
The platform, widely known as the National Single Window, is designed to streamline import and export processes by integrating multiple government agencies into a unified digital system.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Oduwole described the initiative as a critical component of the Federal Government’s broader reform agenda to modernise Nigeria’s trade ecosystem.
She noted that the platform would simplify procedures for traders and reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks that have long slowed down cross-border transactions.
The system is expected to enable businesses to submit documents once through a central portal, eliminating duplication and improving coordination among agencies.
Improving Efficiency and Competitiveness
Officials say the digital platform will significantly cut delays at ports, enhance transparency, and strengthen revenue collection, while boosting Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade.
The initiative aligns with the government’s push to create a more investment-friendly environment and support economic growth through technology-driven reforms.
Oduwole emphasised the importance of stakeholder collaboration in ensuring a smooth rollout, noting that sensitisation efforts are ongoing for traders, importers, and exporters ahead of the launch.
Part of Broader Economic Reform Agenda
The National Single Window forms part of a wider strategy to reposition Nigeria’s economy by improving trade facilitation and reducing inefficiencies across key sectors.
Government officials have also highlighted the need for complementary infrastructure upgrades, particularly at ports, to ensure the full benefits of the digital system are realised.
Described as a transformative step, the platform is expected to play a key role in accelerating trade processes and supporting long-term economic development.
