The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency agencies have successfully rescued a driver trapped under a 40-foot container following a road accident in the Mile 2 area of Lagos.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, signed by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo.
According to the statement, the incident occurred when a 40-foot loaded container, en route to Apapa, fell onto a Toyota Camry with the registration number LSR 293 HJ.
“Through the swift and coordinated response of LASTMA and other emergency services, the driver was rescued alive and received immediate medical attention after being rushed to the hospital by the joint rescue team,” Bakare-Oki said.
He commended the collaborative efforts of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and officers from the Kirikiri Police Division, who ensured security during the operation.
Bakare-Oki used the occasion to emphasize the critical importance of properly securing containers by truck drivers and operators, warning that negligence posed significant risks to lives and property.
“LASTMA remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of Lagos roadways and continues to work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to uphold traffic laws and enhance public safety,” he stated.
This incident underscores the need for stricter adherence to road safety regulations to prevent similar accidents, Bakare-Oki added, urging all road users to prioritize safety at all times.
