Officials from the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce
On Thursday, conducted a successful operation to dislodge street traders and seize illegally displayed goods at the Ikotun BRT bus station.
The operation, which was confirmed by the state’s Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, aimed to restore order and curb unlawful trading at the station.
In a statement released on Friday, Wahab explained that various items and goods displayed by vendors in and around the bus station were confiscated by the taskforce.
“The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce yesterday monitored compliance and carried out enforcement at the Ikotun BRT bus station, which has been illegally taken over by street vendors for commercial purposes,” Wahab said.
“All items and wares displayed at the unauthorized location were seized, and the bus station and its surroundings were sanitised of the menace caused by the activities of vendors who had converted the bus station and public road into a commercial hub,” he continued.
Wahab also confirmed that nine individuals were arrested during the operation and would be charged in court.
This move forms part of the ongoing efforts by the Lagos State government to enforce public order and eliminate illegal trading practices in public spaces
