The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) commits to conducting the upcoming local government elections in an atmosphere free from external interference.
During a press briefing held at the KANSIEC headquarters in Kano, the Commission’s Chairman, Prof. Sani Malumfashi, emphasized their dedication to ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process.
Malumfashi confirmed that the chairmanship and councillorship elections across Kano’s 44 local governments are set for October 26, with six registered political parties participating: NNPP, ZLP, Accord Party, NRPM, AAC, and AA.
He noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would not be taking part in the election.
“The commission will operate independently in conducting the local government elections in the state; nobody is going to interfere with our activities,” Malumfashi stated.
“Similarly, nobody should approach us with bribe.
If people approach us with bribe, we will expose them; we did it before, and we will do it again,” he continued.
The Chairman called on all candidates to urge their supporters to avoid violence and cooperate with the commission for smooth electoral proceedings.
He stressed that vote-buying and the use of political thugs are strictly prohibited under commission regulations.
Malumfashi also urged politicians, traditional and religious leaders, community leaders, civil society organizations, security agencies, and the media to support the commission’s efforts to create a credible, peaceful election environment.
“We say no to bribery, vote-buying, and thuggery before, during, and after the elections,” he affirmed.
Commending the media’s role in mobilizing voter participation, Malumfashi encouraged continued cooperation to make the election process as inclusive and transparent as possible.
