The Kaduna State Police Command arrested 21 suspects for allegedly attempting to disrupt the local government elections held on October 19, 2024.
The arrests were carried out by officers from Operation Fushin Kada, who acted swiftly to prevent the interference with the electoral process.
In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, revealed that the suspects, identified as political thugs, were apprehended while attempting to block transportation routes and disrupt the distribution of election materials.
They allegedly targeted ad-hoc staff of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) responsible for overseeing election logistics.
Hassan also disclosed that sharp weapons and hard drugs were recovered from the suspects.
The arrested individuals are currently in police custody and will be charged to court after investigations are completed.
Authorities are probing potential links to other individuals or groups involved in the attempted disruption.
Meanwhile, Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Abdullahi, praised the officers for their prompt action in maintaining order and urged citizens to remain law-abiding.
He called for continued cooperation with the police to ensure peace and stability in the state.
