United States President Donald Trump has said Iran is not prepared to strike a deal that would bring an end to the ongoing conflict, despite indications that Washington has held discussions with Tehran.
Speaking about the situation, Trump said the United States had been in contact with Iran but that negotiations had not reached the stage of a settlement.
“We’re talking to Iran, but they’re not ready,” Trump said, adding that a deal to end the war is not imminent.
The US leader also expressed uncertainty about whether reaching an agreement at this stage would be appropriate, questioning the stability of Iran’s leadership amid the ongoing war.
“I’m not sure I want to make a deal,” Trump said, noting that “nobody even knows who you’re dealing with” because many Iranian leaders have been killed during the conflict.
The comments come as fighting between the United States, Israel and Iran continues, with airstrikes and missile exchanges reported across the region. The escalating confrontation has raised fears of a broader Middle East conflict and disrupted global oil supplies, particularly around the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Despite Trump’s suggestion that Tehran might eventually seek negotiations, Iranian officials have rejected claims that they are pursuing talks with Washington.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran has no interest in negotiating with the United States, insisting that the country is focused on defending itself amid the conflict.
The war has intensified tensions across the Middle East, with attacks and counter-attacks reported in several countries while diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire remain stalled.
