The House of Representatives, through its Committee on Public Accounts, has initiated a series of investigative hearings to address substantial outstanding debts owed by several oil companies to the Federation Account.

The probe seeks to uncover the reasons behind the non-remittance of funds by these companies and ensure accountability in the management of the nation’s oil revenues. Lawmakers are expected to engage with key stakeholders, including government agencies and industry representatives, to ascertain the extent of the debts and develop measures for recovery.

The hearings come amid growing concerns over revenue shortfalls and the need for stricter financial oversight in the oil and gas sector. The committee is determined to hold defaulting companies accountable and strengthen mechanisms to prevent future financial irregularities.

More details are expected as the investigation progresses.
