Crystal Palace captain Marc Guéhi has sparked fresh controversy after inscribing another religious message on his rainbow armband during a match against Ipswich Town on Tuesday.
The England international wrote “Jesus loves you” with a heart symbol replacing the word “love,” despite a prior warning from the Football Association (FA) about the display of religious messages. The incident follows a similar gesture during a match against Newcastle, where Guéhi wrote “I love Jesus” on his armband.
Under FA Rule A4, players are prohibited from displaying political, religious, or personal messages during matches. After the first incident, the FA issued a reminder to Guéhi and Crystal Palace, emphasizing the importance of adhering to these regulations.
With the latest gesture, the FA has launched an investigation, and Guéhi could face disciplinary measures, including a potential suspension.
The repeated actions have ignited debate over the balance between personal expression and regulatory compliance in football, as fans and commentators await the FA’s decision on the matter.
