Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, condemned the killing of civilians in military airstrikes at Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa villages in Silame Local Government Area.

The airstrikes, aimed at targeting Lakurawa terrorists, reportedly killed at least 10 civilians on Christmas Day.

In a statement, Governor Aliyu expressed his sorrow over the incident, stating that he is in “direct communication with the leadership of the Nigerian Army to ensure a thorough investigation” into the tragedy.

He pledged that the state government would provide full support to the affected families and collaborate with the relevant authorities to prevent such occurrences in the future.

“It is with a heavy heart that I address you following the tragic incident in Gidan Bisa and Runtuwa.

This heartbreaking event, caused by an accidental misfire from the Nigerian Army, has claimed innocent lives and left several others injured,” Aliyu said.

The governor extended his condolences to the victims’ families, praying for the quick recovery of the injured.

He assured that every effort would be made to support the families and ensure that such a tragedy is prevented in the future.

Aliyu further visited the affected areas and announced a donation of N20 million along with 100 bags of assorted food items to assist the victims families and cover medical expenses for those injured in the airstrike.

“We stand united as a community in this difficult time, and I urge all residents to remain calm and pray for peace in our state and nation,” he added.

“Together, we will overcome this moment and work towards ensuring that such tragedies do not occur again,” he concluded.
