Ghana’s Black Galaxies head coach, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, has admitted that Nigeria’s Super Eagles B showed greater determination in their 3-1 victory over his side during the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
The match, played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, saw Nigeria secure a spot in the 2024 CHAN tournament with an impressive display of attacking football.
Sodiq Ismaila of Remo Stars opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 18th minute, setting the tone for a dominant performance. Junior Nduka and Saviour Isaac added quickfire goals to solidify the Super Eagles’ lead. Ghana’s Amankona Stephen managed a consolation goal in the 74th minute, but it was too late to change the outcome.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Dramani highlighted Nigeria’s superior hunger and intensity as decisive factors in the game.
“Every coach will feel disappointed, but the result remains what it is. Nigeria showed much more hunger and did a lot of running. We gave away some key moments in the game, which turned out to be disastrous for us,” Dramani said.
He added, “After the first goal, the second and third goals can drain the strength and energy of a team. Nigeria showed a lot more hunger to get the win, especially in the first half.”
The loss continues a challenging period for Ghana’s national teams, as the Black Galaxies also failed to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Nigeria, on the other hand, will now shift focus to preparing for the CHAN tournament, riding high on their commanding performance against their West African rivals.
