Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has written to the State House of Assembly, proposing Wednesday, March 19, 2025, as the new date for the presentation of the 2025 state budget.
In a letter addressed to Speaker Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, the governor recalled his earlier attempt to present the budget on March 12, which was thwarted when he was denied entry into the Assembly complex. Despite submitting a soft copy notification in advance and attempting to deliver a hard copy through the clerk, he and his entourage were reportedly locked out.
Governor Fubara emphasized that his actions were in line with a Supreme Court judgment, which, he noted, had also directed the Assembly to operate within constitutional limits. He reminded the Speaker that the House had previously issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the budget presentation—even before he received a certified true copy of the court’s judgment and enrolled orders.
Reaffirming his dedication to governance amid the state’s political crisis, Fubara called on all arms of government to uphold the rule of law and work within constitutional boundaries for the benefit of the people.
“No matter the depth of our differences, we believe the interests of the state and our people should take priority over political conflicts,” he stated.
The letter formally informed the Speaker of his intention to present the budget on March 19 at 11:00 a.m. or at any other time deemed suitable by the House. The governor expressed hope that the Assembly would grant his request.
