Former Real Madrid and Spain defender Sergio Ramos has signed a one-year contract with Mexican club Monterrey. The 38-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Sevilla at the end of the 2023-24 season. A World Cup winner with Spain in 2010, Ramos also played a key role in his country’s triumphs at the European Championships in 2008 and 2012.
Monterrey, currently 10th in Liga MX, are managed by former Manchester City defender Martín Demichelis.
Ramos began his career at Sevilla before joining Real Madrid in 2005, where he spent 16 years and won 22 major trophies, including five La Liga titles and four Champions League titles. In 2021, he moved to Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year deal before returning to Sevilla in 2023.
At Monterrey, Ramos will wear the number 93 shirt—an homage to his dramatic stoppage-time equalizer in the 2014 Champions League final.
