The immediate past acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Ifeanyi Nworie, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), along with hundreds of his supporters.
Nworie and his supporters were received on Wednesday during a civic reception held at the Ezza South Local Government Area headquarters in Onueke. The former PDP leader expressed his commitment to supporting the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru, citing the APC’s people-oriented policies as his motivation for defecting.
“We have fought a lot, and we can see that Governor Francis Nwifuru and the APC mean well for the state,” Nworie said. “Our defection is to support Governor Nwifuru in building the state and bringing the dividends of democracy to the people.”
He pledged to use his political experience to contribute to the development of Ebonyi State under the APC-led administration.
APC Welcomes Defectors
Stanley Okoro-Emegha, the chairman of the APC in Ebonyi State, welcomed the defectors and urged them to remain steadfast in their support for the party and its government. He emphasized the need for unity and collaboration, noting that “crisis and bitterness do no man any good.”
Okoro-Emegha disclosed efforts to bring more opposition members into the fold, including the PDP’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma-Odii. “The door of the party is like a church; when you repent, you will be welcomed,” he said.
He added, “The development of a state comes with collective ideas. I have travelled to Lagos to meet Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma-Odii to join hands with Governor Nwifuru to move the state forward.”
The event underscores the growing influence of the APC in Ebonyi State, as political leaders from the opposition continue to align with the ruling party in support of its developmental agenda.
