The Federal Government extended support to victims of the recent petrol tanker explosion in Jigawa State by donating essential food items and relief materials, including mats, blankets, children’s clothing, and charcoal stoves.

The items were presented by Hon. Tijjani Aliyu Ahmad from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), underscoring the agency’s commitment to addressing the needs of displaced individuals across Nigeria.

“As you are aware, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) is an agency of the federal government with a mandate to coordinate national actions for the protection, assistance, and provision of durable solutions for persons of concern—IDPs, refugees, migrants, asylum seekers, returnees, and stateless persons,” Hon. Ahmad explained.

He also highlighted that the NCFRMI’s work aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes rebuilding a resilient and inclusive Nigeria.

“NCFRMI is committed to ensuring peace and stability, especially for persons of concern in Jigawa State, through impactful interventions,” he added.

The relief package includes 200 bags of 25 kg rice, 100 bags of 25 kg millet, 200 cartons of spaghetti, 200 bags of Semovita, and 50 cartons of Maggi seasoning, along with rubber mats, blankets, children’s clothing, cooking oil, charcoal stoves, and mattresses.

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has established an independent committee to ensure fair distribution of these donations, including food and financial support amounting to over N1.5 billion.

This aid is designated to assist the families of the 182 deceased and over 80 individuals affected by the tragic incident.
